Ommwriter and the Mac

We are mostly Mac users here at Herraizsoto&co. Since the Ommwriter idea started out as an internal tool for us, we originally developed it for the Mac platform. We could generate a long list of reasons as to why we use Macs within the agency. Or we could just simply summarize it into one: we like them. Owning a Mac is like owning a Harley Davidson. You would never think about getting another one.

But now that Ommwriter is born and quickly growing up, we, as proud parents,  have to learn to let go. Ommwriter is no longer just a tool for internal use for the lucky few.

OK we’re Mac-lovers. However , the original idea was also to share Ommwriter with as many people as possible so that they would also get the same benefits out of using it as we do.

Does that mean that Ommwriter will only ever be available for the Mac? Well, based on all your feedback, I guess not.

I agree with you: share the Ommwriter love!
Now, if I may, I’d add just one thing: saving as .rtf. That would make Ommwriter virtually perfect!
    Thank you!

  2. lori says:

yes, yes, yes !!!!!!!! (a pc owner and ommwriter fan)

  3. Isn’t it going to be a lot harder to create it for two platforms? Have you guys planned how it’s going to be? Like are you going to fully support both or just make OmmWriter for Mac the main focus then integrate those features in later Windows versions?

  4. bwa says:

bring it on! (rtf support would be nice too)

  5. Brian Rubinton says:

    How about a web app?

  6. Ester says:

Creo que no había visto nada tan delicado y bonito en mi vida.
    Gracias, gracias, gracias!!

  7. Nobody Important says:

Seriously, a Windows port wouldn’t be half as wonderful as a Linux one. Modern desktop Linux is truly a work to behold, and this program seems like a good compliment to the rest of my desktop. I look forward to seeing how it happens.

Never tried Ommwriter but I suffer from distraction so yes – I would love to try a PC version. My wife is getting a mac so I will get to try it but I don’t anticipate getting to use it regularly.

  9. @Nobody Important – That doesn’t make any sense. If this excellent program is being ported then the features would be the same across the board.

    @Ommwriter – Yes! That’s what I’m looking for.

  10. @Paul, it does make sense. There are apps that have some features on just the Mac/PC version. And there are companies that will release the app on one platform first and then release it on the other platform later (check out Photoshop and ZBrush).

As a pc user, a writer, and studying creative writing at university, i would dearly love to have this program on windows.

It looks pretty beautiful and an easy way to just concentrate on writing.

Well a couple of observations after using it for an hour. I like the lack of distractions, simplicity, sounds and the forced discipline that comes with the interface. nice…
I understand the desire for simplicity and not adding other feature unless absolutely necessary. Having said that, I still think that some key features that would make this an exceptional tool are needed.
hotkey – to automatically save and open current document in a second application, in a seamless fashion. If it could continuously update the second app with changes made in omniwriter. That way with the press of the hotkey one could immediately hop back and forth between apps as needed.
display formatting – the ability for OW to display formatted text

    thanks for the nice work

I am always on the lookout for anything that will help reduce the productivity-robbing distractions of a networked computer. One of my most trusted (Mac-using) colleagues told me about ommwriter and it looks wonderful. The only problem is that I can’t use it because I’m on a PC, and a new Mac isn’t in the cards right now. I hope you will consider making a PC version soon. Thanks!

I’m joining PC user and I would love a pc version too… Thanks and congratulation for your beautiful work !

    This looks wonderful. Well done!
For various reasons I need to be on Windows, so I’ll just remain sitting here, quietly and in peace, for the day you release a Win 7 compatible version. :)
(that I will willingly pay for)

  22. Mikel Galartza says:

Please, please make a PC version. Thank you.

  23. C says:

Please make a PC version! This program is simply great. It’s single biggest drawback is that I can’t run it on my PC!

  24. Would love to see a PC version as well. It’s too beautiful to be confined to one system.

  25. Nick says:

Yeah – a PC version is definitely in order!
