OmmWriter for iPad on iOS 6: testing the keyboard

Just to let you know that we’re now testing the fix for our keyboard. When we’re happy with it, it’ll go to Apple for approval. This part of the process will normally take a couple of weeks at most. In not too long you’ll be back on your iPad in Omm style.

Thanks, everyone, for your support!

    Honestly, haven’t noticed any problems.

Nice. Simple and to the point. Not apologetic. Not overly wordy. I’m fine with it – I can wait. In the mean time I’ll just use the Mac version.
There’s a certain simple purity about that October 23rd post that appeals to me, and it leaves me more tolerant than I would have been to a more traditional response, which mayhave included excuses, blame, defensive posture or even an excessively apologetic tone. This is something to take note of (I just did).
    Thanks

It is possible to be gifted the Mac version if we are solely iPad users or maybe even just until it is fixed? I just don’t want to go and have to buy a new program. Thanks.

Oh and this may be a dumb question, anyone can answer. How do I access the options to customize the app? I want to change the background. Thanks again. I’m really ending my message this time. Peace.

Disregard my last request. I wasn’t aware of the Dana I. I am downloading it now.

Hi Guys – still looking for that update! Looking forward to being able to use OmmWriter again on my iPad. Thanks!

  6. Hector says:

People, it’s been 3 week since you submitted the app to Apple. This is taking too much, isn’t it?

  7. Hector says:

Almost a month! what’s going on?!

Hello, This message is not simply yet another request to provide a fix for the keyboard issue, but a request to please keep communicating to us. As a software developer I understand that bugs happen and it sometimes takes longer than we’d like to fix them; but PLEASE continue to communicate to us even if only to stay it is tell with Apple to verify. When you leave us in the dark it makes us wonder if there is EVER going to be a fix. So please, just keep talking to us. Your user community loves the product enough to be able to handle whatever news/updates you give us, no matter how disappointing. I think the only thing we can’t handle is silence…
    Regards…

    Steve

In case this helps other iPad users while waiting for teh update…
I am now able to use Ommwriter on my iPad, and the on-screen keyboard works! There is a trick, though. First, turn the iPad to portrait orientation, then tap on the “word count” indicator at the bottom of the screen. A message pops up saying “To write, rotate iPad to landscape mode”. And it is correct. I rotate the iPad back to landscape mode, and presto – the on-screen keyboard is now visible, including the wrench icon so that I can now adjust ambient sound, key click sound, background image, text font and size, and so on. And the external keyboard works flawlessly, with arrow keys, special alt-characters (œ∑´®†¥), etc… I love this app!!

  12. Steve says:

I tried the trick described by @Mark above and it works for me as well. Took a couple of tries but the onscreen keyboard popped up and I was able to adjust the settings as well. Don’t know how you figured that one out Mark but nice job.
Ivin: I suggest you post this on your Apple store page so that people have a work around until the official fix is released.
    Thanks!

    Hi Marc!

We may have to re-consider our testing services now. :) We’re impressed! And also very happy that you took the time to play with it and share it with the rest of us. We’ll give it a test to confirm, and if it’s consistent share it with everyone.
    Many, many thanks!

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for trying it and confirming. That makes us hopeful that indeed is solid. Your suggestion is a good one. Once we have a look at it we’ll distribute accordingly. In that very same breath, every day is one step closer to the release of the official fix.
    Thank you!

Avid user of OmmWriter here. Just purchased it for my iPad and was disappointed to find the keyboard problem. But not to worry, as I know the OmmWriter crew will fix the problem and make it work beautifully again. Please keep us updated! Thanks for such a great program.

  16. Mark Barclay says:

A bit more playing around, and I discovered an additional condition. It seems that the work-around I described above only works (for me) if I start-up OmmWriter while the iPad is in portrait mode. Starting the app in landscape mode seems to prevent this fix from working for the duration. So if the work-around does not work for you, just close the program (using the technique of double-tapping the start button), rotate your iPad to portrait mode, start OmmWriter up again, tap on the “word count” icon and then rotate it back to landscape mode.

  17. Lottie says:

Thanks Mark for the additional advice – this finally worked for me!

  18. Eliza says:

Hey guys! The fix worked for me too. I was wondering why the keypad appeared at sometimes but not at others but now, thanks to Mark I know why. Thank you :)

    Works! Thanks Mark.

A big thanks to you Mark for the solution!!
